RAIDERS TRAVEL POLICY
The St. Albert Raiders have established policies to guide teams as it relates to travel. The policies are intended to minimize one-on-one interactions and reduce the risk of abuse or misconduct. Adherence to these travel policies will increase player safety and improve the player’s experience while keeping travel a fun and enjoyable experience.
While travelling outside the St. Albert area, athletes, parents, and coaches are representatives of the Raiders program and must always adhere to the Association Code of Conduct. Prior to any team travel, coaches will endeavour to make players and parents aware of all expectations and rules. All teams must abide by the Hockey Alberta travel guidelines and St. Albert Minor Hockey Association policies.

OVERNIGHT TEAM TRAVEL

Coach Supervised Team Travel

-
Players should share rooms with one other player of the same gender; if there are an odd number of players, three players per room is permitted.
-
At no point shall a player be asked to share a bed with other players.
-
The coach will establish a curfew by which all players must be in their hotel rooms. Regular monitoring and curfew checks will be made of each room by at least two members of the coaching staff. A best practice is to ensure that coaches enter the room to conduct the room check.
-
The team personnel shall ask hotels to block adult pay-per-view channels and all room charges.
-
No chaperone shall at any time be under the influence of alcohol or drugs while performing their chaperoning duties.
-
A minimum of two adult coaches or chaperones must be always present; the ideal coach-to-player ratio is one to five.
-
Players are not permitted to host invited guests in hotel sleeping rooms; guests include any individual, not on the registered team roster. If this occurs, the parents of the players involved will be contacted, and the player will be immediately suspended indefinitely.
-
Individual meetings between a player and coach may not occur in hotel sleeping rooms and must be held in public settings or with additional adults present.
-
Team meetings do not occur in hotel rooms, but the team may reserve a separate space for adults and athletes to socialize.
-
All players will be permitted to make regular check-in phone calls to parents. Coaches shall allow for any unscheduled check-in phone calls initiated by either the player or parents.
-
Family members who wish to stay in the team hotel are permitted to do so.
-
If disciplinary action against a player is required while the player is travelling without his/her parents, then except where immediate action is necessary, parents will be notified before any action is taken or immediately after the action.
-
In all cases involving travel, parents have the right to transport their minor player and have the minor player stay in their hotel room or approved accommodation.

Parent/Legal Guardian Supervised Team Travel
-
Parents or Legal Guardians hold full responsibility for players while staying in hotels room.
-
The coach will establish a curfew by which all players must be in their hotel rooms.

Players are not recommended to host invited guests in hotel sleeping rooms; this is the responsibility of the parent or guardian. Any risk associated with this activity is assumed by the parent or legal guardian.
-

Bus Travel
The St. Albert Raiders requires that all teams travel via chartered bus for any trip over 200km. A team may make a written request to the VP of Raiders, asking permission for the team to not use bus travel. The written request must be done four (4) weeks prior to the intended travel and clearly outline the reasons for requesting not to use a bus.
This policy is not applicable to U13 AA teams. It is assumed these players will travel with their families; the team can choose to take the bus if the parents support this additional expense.
BUS CONDUCT

a) Players are expected to be seated and quiet during all bus trips
b) Loudspeakers are not allowed
d) The players will clean the bus at regular intervals throughout the trip and at the conclusion
e) The team will ensure the bathroom area is kept clean and accessible and used for bathroom purposes only
f) The consumption or display of alcohol is prohibited as per the Association Code of Conduct and Hockey Alberta rules
Parents may travel on the team bus to team events if the Coach permits such an arrangement.
It is expected that at the initial parent meeting, guidelines and rules for travelling are established by the coach and parents.

Tournaments
Teams must request a travel permit from Hockey Alberta, via St. Albert Minor Hockey Assocation, for all tournaments.
-
No team can attend more than two (2) tournaments that require overnight accommodation without the approval of the Division Manager and the Raiders VP.
-
All Raiders teams are permitted to attend one out-of-province or one international tournament each season.
-
Out-of-country tournaments require 80% support from the parents on the team. An anonymous vote must be conducted electronically by the Raiders Division Manager to secure support. In addition to this, the team must submit a separate event budget to the Division Manager. All families have the opportunity to opt out of international tournament travel without fear of retribution. When required, teams may travel with affiliates.
-
Teams are not permitted to participate in a tournament while in playoffs.
