AEHL - NEW in 2024

Earlier this summer, Hockey Alberta introduced significant changes to Elite Hockey in the province, and we’re excited to share how these developments will positively impact your player’s experience.

Unified League Structure

Starting in the 2024-2025 season, all AAA and AA leagues will merge into a single entity, the Alberta Elite Hockey League (AEHL). This unification ensures that player statistics are consistently tracked throughout their progression in Elite Minor Hockey, providing a seamless experience. The league will also adopt a unified game sheet platform, HockeyTech, standardizing operations across all provincial leagues. This structure mirrors what’s already in place in the Alberta Female Hockey League (AFHL), where U13, U15, and U18 AAA and AA divisions operate under one league.

Centrally Governed Elite Hockey

Hockey Alberta has established an Elite Hockey Executive to manage this new unified structure. This committee is dedicated to delivering premier Elite Development pathways, enhancing the profile of Elite Hockey in Alberta, and aligning operations between AA and AAA leagues across both male and female divisions.

Scholarships for Players

All players at the AAA and AA levels will now have access to league scholarship opportunities, offering additional support for those pursuing excellence in hockey.

Live-Stream Broadcasts with FloHockey 2025

Looking ahead, we will collaborate with Hockey Alberta and other associations to introduce live-stream broadcasts to AA teams through FloHockey by 2025. This initiative will require significant investment in new equipment and, therefore, will take time.

U13 AAA Pilot Program

In the 2024-2025 season, the St. Albert Raiders will proudly host one U13 AAA team as part of a regional pilot program. This team will be among ten in Northern Alberta, leading the way for the province-wide U13 AAA league, set to launch in the 2025-2026 season.

U11 AA Category

This season, we will officially reintroduce U11 AA hockey in Alberta. Teams within U11 AA will play in the newly formed Alberta U11 AA Hockey League. 48 participating teams will compete in regional play throughout the season, culminating in playoffs and a Provincial Tournament.

Thank you for your continued feedback and engagement. Our hockey community is driven by tremendous passion and strong leaders dedicated to creating the best possible environment for our players to thrive. Together, we are shaping the future of Elite Hockey in Alberta, and your ongoing support is invaluable as we move forward.
